Website Support Specialist

Part time web support specialist, flexible hours, flexible location.  You can work in our office or remotely. We need someone to add content to our website and improve navigation – that is, make it easier for people to find relevant resources.  We will provide most of the content but you will need to curate and organize it appropriately.  Examples include but are not limited to: organize a list of upcoming events from information we send you piecemeal (as they are scheduled), work with consultants/speakers to post their information, convert slide sets to PDF and post, take content from a word file we provide and post it on a webpage. There is a large back-log of content right now.  After the back-log of content is loaded, the hours will vary.  There will be updates to post, additional materials to post as we develop them, journal articles as they are published, links to other sites with relevant resources to add and update.

Requirements:

  • Can demonstrate strong skills working with self-hosted wordpress.
  • Motivated self-starter.
  • Independent problem-solver – will try to figure something out first.
  • Comfortable asking for help if cannot figure something out.
  • Internet search skills, journal database (e.g. Pubmed) search skills.
  • Basic English writing skills – spelling, grammar, syntax, paragraph structure.
  • Basic knowledge of SEO – what makes a webpage SEO-friendly.
  • Basic web page design skills.
  • Flexibility – if something needed to be posted quickly, we need someone who can usually accommodate that within 24 hours.  Rare event but important.
  • OK with variable hours ranging from 1 to 20 hours a week. We will also consider people whose maximum availability is 10 hours per week.
  • Ability and willingness to log in and out of an online hour-tracker program when starting and stopping work.
  • Collaborative style.

Desirable but not required:

  • Strong skills in writing for general audience.
  • Advanced knowledge of SEO optimization.
  • Advanced website design skills.
  • Ability to convert PowerPoint files into secure PDF that is SEO friendly.
  • Personal commitment to our mission.
  • Ability to work extra hours a week in the next couple of  weeks to deal with the backlog.
